Shine Through
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
WHY NEON?
It represents the hidden things below the surface. I look it as bright and vibrant potential but everyone probably has their own version of what that means to them. This is the base for almost all my paintings, even the muted ones.
WHY CLOUDS?
They’re light reflecting off water. To me, it’s a symbol of reflection and exploring inner worlds.
WHY THIS POINT OF VIEW?
It’s like laying up and daydreaming at the clouds. Plus, it’s hard to look any farther away than where the sky turns deep blue.
WHAT’S SIGNIFICANT ABOUT LOOKING UP?
Looking up activates dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for our ability to reach goals and achieve “more.” It’s how we make those daydreams reality. In Pursuit of More goes into detail about it if you’d like to read more.
Process
First, the canvas gets several coats of a neon base layer.
Then, strips of tape are laid down and sealed.
After that, about 20 million layers of paint create the sky.
Once it’s dried, the tape is peeled off to reveal the vibrant potential hidden below the surface.
